|for the love of humanity|
October 12, 2021
I listened in on a presentation being given by several faculty and community members who were dispelling myths about immigration, both here in our county/state and across the country.
Frankly, I feel like this information needs to be heard by many more people. Maybe it's my own confirmation bias, so I didn't learn anything new but rather confirmed the things I do know. Like no one person can carry enough water to make the trip.
There's an exhibit in the library about this very thing, and it centers on people in the Sonoran area. I think of all the trash bags, clothes, shoes, and slashed water jugs I've seen in my lifetime, the stories I've heard, and the needless deaths.
I don't have all the answers to this issue, but I do know there's got to be a humanitarian way to handle this rather than people living under a bridge by a river in the sweltering heat. I hate the greed, the politics, and the ill-treatment. Not just here, but the world over. I know there are so many resources and so many people, and I know creative problem solving would work.
The whole situation makes me ill. Shutting down now
