February 20, 2021
for so long now we have ignored the science. we continued with practices that made no sense long term. those that made sense only if the goal was making money, cutting costs, easing up on the red tape of oversight and regulation, ensuring that a few at the top became grotesquely wealthy. 2020 and now the winter of 2021 is showing us the consequences. consequences long felt in other countries in the world, places wracked with poverty, a lack of power, only constant suffering, season to season, mountains beyond mountains, storm after storm. it has reached our shores now too.
we have so much to do. and we are so delinquent in our efforts. and still we have those who deny, distract, obstruct even as we reel from one catastrophe to another.
holding on to hope that we have a clearer vision, dedicated minds and hearts, a will, finally, to begin. but i feel like that hope is a frayed rope, a fragile life line.
meanwhile, millions are freezing in their own homes, without power, without water, running out of food. elders and children are freezing to death in their own beds and a charlatan who poses as a politician flies out with his family and rich friends to vacation in cancun.
