Coffee Hound June 22, 2022
Cooking today. Mom made chicken livers for Paul, and then kidneys for us. I cut up the peppers and onions, and when Mom was done cleaning the kidneys, I separated the fat from the sinew and bits of kidney. The fat is suet, and I use it in Christmas pudding, so I wanted to save it.
Mid morning, Mom had a cup of coffee while the kidneys simmered. She made a cup for Nougat, too, but Nougat got distracted by the kidneys, and didn’t look for the coffee. Mom left it on the counter.
A little later, Brother came home from work. Nougat ran to greet him, and see if he brought her anything. She checks ever time he comes home, and if he hasn’t brought her coffee or rolls from the Portuguese bakery, she gets very disappointed. And whether he brings her something or not, she insists that he fix her a cup of coffee.
Today was no exception. Brother brought home a cup of coffee. When he saw her cup of coffee on the counter, he tried to give it to her. She sniffed it, sat down, stared at him, as if to say, “This isn’t right. You’re supposed to make me my coffee. I don’t want leftovers!”
Brother poured out the offending, unacceptable premade coffee, and poured the coffee he brought home into her cup. The whole time he was preparing her coffee and adding the milk, she sat and watched him to make sure he was doing it “correctly”.
She was apparently satisfied with his efforts, because when he put the cup down, she drank every drop. She’s so spoiled!! But we love her. |
