|Happy Birthday, Mom!|
June 10, 2021
She’s 84 today. She was moaning and groaning over her aches and pains, and how she can’t do all the things she used to do, and getting abit down.
I told her I’d rather have her move slower and do less (she can still do more than I can!), and have all her mental faculties, than the other way around. I’m not sure if that cheered her up exactly, but it put things in perspective.
Today I had my MRI. I’m happy to report that I had no trouble whatsoever getting to the medical building. The MRI went fine. How hard can it be? I just had to lie there, be still, and breathe on command. I’m very good at doing nothing, so except for the noise of the machine, it was no big deal.
Coming home, when I got to the intersection where Brother yelled “left or right” at me, there was no traffic. Not a car in sight. So I got brave, and made a left! (It’s less windy and quicker to the road I needed to get home). Made it home with no problem. I had considered going over to Dollar Tree after the MRI, but changed my mind. I was just there last week, and though I’d forgotten one item, it didn’t seem worth it to go just for that.
I left the house at 8:20 this morning, and I was home by 10:45. Not too bad.
Nougat was happy to see me. As soon as I came in, she wanted to go out. So we did. Then we came in and I groomed her.
I had some lunch, then vacuumed and mopped the kitchen floor, and helped Mom fix the mat for the trash can. It’s beastly hot and humid here, and in the garage, it was stifling. When we finished, it was 1:30, and I was suddenly exhausted. I went and took a two hour nap. Felt much better when I got up.
Made Mom pasta putanesca for her birthday dinner, at her request. We all enjoyed it. Her cousin Katie sent her an Edible Arrangement of fresh fruit. Brother said he has something for dessert, but it’s a surprise.
Tomorrow afternoon Mom and I have a craft class at the Community Center. We’re making seashell mirrors. Should be fun. Heck, anything is fun if it gets us out of the house and gives us something new to do!!
Afterwards, Mom wants to stop at Publix. Brother needs a couple things for the chicken cacciatore that Walmart was out of, and there a few things on sale Mom wants.
This has been the busiest 2 weeks I’ve had since last March, and frankly, while most of it has been fun, I’m petering out. But I’ll perk up next week, cause Lois is coming!
