I spent the morning traveling around the world.
First, I went to Japan (“Dining With the Chef”)
Next, it was on to Norway (“New Scandinavian Cooking”)
And I finished up in Greece (“My Greek Table”)
Later in the afternoon, I spent some time in Canada, zooming with a friend there.
Even dinner was international. Brother made Balkan-inspired meatballs with mushroom gravy and zucchini latkes.
Virtual and culinary excursions..........the next best thing to being there! (And for the moment, the only way to be there!)
In other (less pleasant) news:
There’s a chance of our getting either a tropical storm or hurricane Saturday night into Sunday. Nearby counties already have hurricane watches. But they still not sure of the storm’s path.
That doesn’t stop Mom from panicking already, though.
In our electric bill there was a notice, informing us that in the event of power outages, we should be prepared to wait (possibly much) longer for service to be restored, because, due to covid-19, repair crews from other places will not be coming to assist.
One thing we are all agreed upon is that come wind, rain, hell, or high water (or any combination thereof), we will ride it out at home. None of us wants to risk going to a shelter.
We’re hoping the storm takes itself out to sea.
Geeze, it’s only August (almost), kind of early for hurricanes (in this area, anyway). September/October are usually the worst months here. Hope this isn’t a harbinger of what’s to come. Ah well, all we can do is hunker down, pray for the best, and be as ready as we can be for the worst.
