|Book Review: The Princes of Ireland by Edward Rutherford|
October 23, 2020
This is the first book in The dublin Saga. Warning, it is a loooong read. It is mostly historically accurate, though the famnilies portrayed in the novel are fictional.
This book takes you from Ireland's pagan beginnings to the battles of King Brian, St. Patrick bringing Christendom to Ireland and ends with the burning of what the king considered pagan relics, including the staff of St. Patrick. If you enjoy a long novel, rich in historical detail, this book is for you.
The first half is very battle oriented and is full of action, while the second half is more cerebral as things change and Ireland falls more under the rule of the Vikings and British. Worth the time. Definitely.
