April 10, 2015
I wrote a lot today. Not the most I've ever written in a day, but more than I've written on any day this month. In 8 hours, I wrote 2251 words… more than double the words I wrote yesterday. I am very happy to have written well past my goal for the day.
I challenged myself to 5 10-minute word sprints and even welcomed others in my virtual cabin to join me. After each sprint, I told them how much I had written. In total, I wrote 929 during the word sprints. My first word sprint…146 words (I stopped to fix typos and to think). My second…195 words (I didn't fix as many typos, but I still stopped to think). My third…231 words (I fixed even fewer typos and only stopped to think a few times). My fourth…189 words (the TV became a distraction). And my final word count…168 words (I had reached my goal for the day and slowed down).
I did run into a sticky spot, but luckily someone's suggestion helped me out. I had finally reached the spot that I forgot to research for and I was debating between skipping it or pretending I knew. Two people responded to my comment. One of them suggested doing an outline. So I tried. I started a few chapters by summarizing what I wanted in those chapters. And I was able to continue. It does feel a little bit weird not writing out that part of the story, but at least my story is still moving.
I was also thinking yesterday about how many words I've written for Camp NaNo. In the four previous Camp sessions, I wrote a total of 27,996 (April '13 - 10,123; July '13 - 4,682; April '14 - 12,072; and July '14 - 1,119). So now I have new unofficial goal of 28,000 words. I'll still aim for 25,000, but I'll be thrilled if I can beat all my previous Camps combined.
My plan for day 11 is to get above the halfway mark.
Current Prognosis... Alive and kicking. I am over a day ahead and going strong.
