Somewhere around this date a gambles quail flushed out of the far corner of the back patio while c and i stood outside talking. Flushed for about the 3rd time recently for me. So i knew there had to be a nest somewhere and i began looking. The search ended in the big black pot full of parsley bolted and spearmint hanging on under the canopy in one corner. Tucked under the rim closest to the patio were 16 creamy white eggs with specks of brown in different sized splotches and shades. Will keep an eye on our 3rd nesting quail, first time in the back. How the babies will hamdle the wall that closes in the patio I'm not sure. Mama will easily fly up and over but it's 3 ft high. Will be interesting to watch.
Neanwhile the cactus here are exploding in blooms all over the valley. Not the palo verdes yet but the ocotillos yes. And the saguaros too are later coming. The palo verdes on the way to tucson for my dr appt monday were beginning their show so ours will follow here in 7 to 10 days.
